This article pertains to all employees in Canada and the United States.
This article is applicable to changing your computer password, Microsoft 365, and various single sign-on sites.
The basic password guidelines for passwords used to access your computer, Microsoft 365, and connected single sign-on sites:
- Password length must be the minimum dictated by company policy
- Must contain any combination of upper case letters A-Z, lowercase letters a-z, numbers 0-9 and special characters ~!@#$%^&*_-+=`|\(){}[]:;"'<>,.?/
- Reusing an old password is not permitted.
STOP If you are a remote user, you must be connected to the Reliable Parts network using the Cisco AnyConnect VPN before doing any of the following. If you are already at the office, you can disregard this step.
You know your password and need to change it
On Network
To reset your Windows password at your computer, press the key combination CTRL-ALT-DEL and then click Change Password. You'll need the current password in order to change it.
Remote Employee\VPN User
To reset your password if you are a remote employee utilizing the VPN, do the following:
- Open a browser and sign into Microsoft 365 at https://office.com. If your password is expired, you will be prompted to change it at this time.
- Connect to the VPN using your new password
- Lock your computer by pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL and selecting Lock
- Unlock your computer by pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL and signing in with your NEW password
You forgot your password and need to reset it
Go to another computer and do the following:
- Open an Incognito or InPrivate browser window and sign into Microsoft 365 at https://office.com.
- Click the sign on icon in the upper right corner of the page.
- Enter your complete email address (firstname.lastname@reliableparts.com) and click Next.
- Click Forgot My Password to begin the self-service password reset.
Alternate method of resetting your password
If you do not remember your old password you can use Self-Service Password Reset by visiting https://passwordreset.microsoftonline.com. You'll be prompted for the following information to verify your identity and subsequently resetting your password. If unable to complete this process, please contact the Help Desk.
After entering your email address and the characters you will be presented with this screen
Select the appropriate option and then you will see the following screen. Select your method of verification and proceed as directed by the prompts.
